If they sell that book. If the Author is still alive then they should still get paid. This is are job!
Okay then everybody go to work at any job and don't get a pay check and see how you can live.
A use book we should get paid for softback $3.00 a Hardback $4.50 that is only fare.Pami L. Does anyone pay or get paid when their material is quoted in another publication?Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10010705414377015741noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6138705851348115177.post-22182567414905453362011-03-18T10:36:02.850-06:002011-03-18T10:36:02.850-06:00In an ideal world, yes, I think an author should g...In an ideal world, yes, I think an author should get royalty every time his or her book is purchased, because you're right--the *content* is still new.

Realistically, I know this is not going to happen. I encourage UBSs only when the book is out of print and unavailable any other way.

Also, UBS owners are usually enthusiastic readers who turn new readers on to your books, and who will order your new titles new, host signings, and otherwise promote authors they love. *New* bookstore owners used to do this, and then the chains happened. Some booksellers in the chains are fabulous, others couldn't be paid to care (which might I posit has led to their current troubles).Jennifer Ashley/ Allyson James / Ashley Gardnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16501969781398343424noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6138705851348115177.post-27777274181372026212010-01-10T10:59:03.847-07:002010-01-10T10:59:03.847-07:00Do you think authors should get a royalty on used ...Do you think authors should get a royalty on used book sales?

The content of books is intellectual property and has no wear. Each person who purchased a used book is actually purchasing NEW content and just as with a software license the original purchaser can't sell that software on ebay or such and the software company may limit the number of ownership transfers.

I think people who buy used books and get benefit from them should send money to the author just the same as if someone gives me copied music that I like...I should pay the author a 'usage fee'. If I never play a music file then I've enjoyed no benefit and there's no transaction has been made.Randy Zeitmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17414896027224112387noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6138705851348115177.post-32390976185931758602009-08-04T18:23:11.061-06:002009-08-04T18:23:11.061-06:00I should add another benefit of UBSs and libraries...I should add another benefit of UBSs and libraries: If a book is out of print, these places allow you to find the book, read it, enjoy it. I often resort to libraries/UBSs when I stumble upon a series I like and the first books are O-O-P. Also some great research books have limited printings or are so far out of my budget (hundreds of dollars), that the library is my friend. :-)Jennifer Ashley/ Allyson James / Ashley Gardnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16501969781398343424noreply@blogger.com
